Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I get a Company Bike?

In order to get a Company Bike you have to be approved by Transportation. You can start the conversation by emailing Transportation@seattlechildrens.com

2. What do I need to bring with me to a checkout?

Children's provides a credit towards a helmet that is yours to keep, but it is likely that you will need to chip in some money towards the helmet that you like. There are always great goodies that you might want with your bike when you pick it up too, so bringing a credit or debit card with you is a great idea.

3. What do I get with the Company Bike

Seattle Children's will provide you with the bike, a set of lights for being seen with (as opposed to lights to see by), a lock for the bike, and a credit towards a helmet of your choice (we keep a pretty fair selection of helmets at the shop for you to pick from).

4. What if I can't make it to any of the appointments available?

We try to keep a wide range of times and days open for check outs, if you cannot make the check out times available, contact us at childrens@mendbicycles.com and we can try to arrange a time that works best of you.

5. What do I do if I want to return my bike?

You can drop off your bike with us during any of our open hours - 8:30 am to 4 pm Tuesday through Thursday during the winter and Monday through Friday in the Summer.

6. What if I don't think I can commit to riding twice a week?

If you don't think that you can meet the commitment to riding twice a week, there are other options to explore. You can check out a short term loaner to try commuting with minimal commitment, or (mend)bicycles offers a variety of discounts on new bike as well as a good selection of  used bikes that you can purchase so you can commute when you want on your own terms.

7. What might I need besides what Children's offers with the Company Bike?

Children's offers safety lights, a lock, and a big discount on a new helmet for each rider. Many Company Bike riders opt to purchase headlights to see by (especially night shift, swing shift, and winter riders), bags to carry their belongings while riding, and clothing to keep them comfortable while riding. We offer all those items at an special discount to help everyone start riding with confidence.

8. What are my obligations with the Company Bike program?

Company Bike riders are expected incorporate cycling into their commute twice a week. Riders are also expected to keep the bikes safe and in good working order. This includes using the lock provided and following good bike lock procedures. Riders are expected to get regular service through the Staff Bicycle Service Center or through MBR downtown. Riders are completely financially responsibly for the bike and the equipment issued to them when they check out their company bike.
